Join bestselling cartoonist and super-experienced tutor James Parsons on Zoom for a 10 week course in the popular manga/anime style of comic art. Every Wednesday at 930am, I’ll be guiding you through all the essential tricks required to create amazing manga artwork – from kawaii and chibis to classic characters, and more realistically proportioned figures. If you attended the previous manga course this will be entirely fresh perspectives and workshops! Some sessions will explore manga and create artwork themed to different genres, so we’ll be learning about Yokai (magical mythical creatures), Isekai (transported to magical worlds), Mecha (giant robots), or Cookery Manga for example! Other sessions will look at expressive poses and character drawing/design, often using fan favourites of the particpants!

Perfect for 8 years to teenage – grown-ups are welcome to accompany younger kids.

Printable worksheets reinforcing the topics covered and providing super-fun drawing practice will be provided with zoom codes for each session. All you need is a pencil, paper, optional black outliner and colours, and plenty of imagination!

Workshop content will be devised nearer to the time, and is often be influenced by the requests and interests of the young artists… but this hypothetical course structure should give you an idea of how things might run. Please take note of the dates n times of the workshops, the mid-course break, and no workshop on 5th March due to World Book Day Week (Comic Club is always fully booked by schools this week).

Week 1 – Wednesday 8th January – Kawaii Klassiks – adorable anthropomorphic cuteness culture explored!
Week 2 – 15th January – Chibis forever, classic characters, as requested by the young people! (super-cute character creation)
Week 3 – 22nd January – Manga explorers – creating artworks linked to a genre! Isekai!
Week 4 – 29th January – Yokai! We’ll be drawing mysterious Japanese folk creatures, and learning about their strange histories!
Week 5 – 5th February – Manga explorers – creating artwork linked to a genre! Mecha!
Week 6 -12th February – More realistic manga character (dynamic upgrades for realistically-proportioned figure drawing and character design tricks)

MID-COURSE BREAK!

Week 7 – 26th February – Hair, eyes, hands…. tricky tips and unbeatable upgrades!

Week 8 – 12th March – Classic characters, as requested by the young people!
Week 9 – 19th March – Studio Ghibli Special!
